As a Software Engineering Team Leader, you will lead a team of software engineers in the delivery of a mix of products ranging from low volume, high value rugged industrial workstations, to high volume intrinsically safe isolators/barriers. The role will include hands on design work. The team will also include FPGA firmware development engineers.

Your key responsibilities:

• Active participation in a culture of continuous improvement, refining and defining procedures and processes to ensure good quality product meeting cost and time-to-market objectives.

• Responsible for providing system engineering leadership and guidance for the project team in the design and development of new products and maintenance of the existing product line.

• Responsible for capturing, specifying and managing design requirements. Undertake and/or supervise verification and validation of new product designs to ensure that these requirements have been met.

• Design and develop new products in accordance with agreed design specifications, schedule and cost targets, ensuring a high standard of product quality and reliability.

• Responsible for supervising and assisting the development of other engineers by setting a good example in all areas, e.g. giving technical guidance, showing commercial awareness, showing commitment to timescales, showing positive attitude.

• Lead the performance of peer and formal design reviews. Ensure that reviews are robust, productive and treated as an integral part of the design process.

• Responsible for demonstrating excellent problem solving skills and a track record of leading others to do the same.

• Ability to write clear and unambiguous process and product documentation.

• Ensuring the adoption of best practices.

• Responsible for ensuring the appropriate skills/capabilities mix in the SW team through development/recruitment/coaching.

• Responsible for the performance management of a team of 3 software/firmware engineers.

• Participation in the definition of product roadmaps.

• Maintaining an awareness of current industry trends and maintaining relationships with suppliers to make best use of emerging technologies.

• Support concept/bids phase evaluation of projects with respect to task identification/estimation.

• Developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships with suppliers, customers and other parts of the organisation.

• Provide technical support to Sales, Marketing, Operations and external customers when more in depth product knowledge is required.

Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will have experience of embedded software development including connected products.

• Knowledge of networking and connectivity via interfaces such as Zigbee and Bluetooth in addition to Ethernet and WiFi is desirable.

• DevOps skills are required to be able to ensure the team's use of a variety of software tools is efficient and effective.

• Degree level in Software Engineering discipline

• 10 years in software engineering and 3 years in people management

• Embedded software development

• Proven people management skills
