Position Summary:

The Oncology Patient Coordinator functions as an integral member of the Radiation Oncology care team providing administrative expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care in a timely manner. This position ensures access to the Cancer Center clinical team including Radiation Oncologist, Nursing staff and Radiation Therapists.  The Coordinator schedules new and returning patients including physician office visits, testing, ancillary services, and in-patient admissions and nursing care. This position completes insurance verification prior to treatment and also registers each patient on the day of service and again each month they are in active treatment. The Coordinator triages a high volume of patient calls according to established algorithms, answering questions, resolving issues and referring patients to the appropriate clinical care specialist.  The Coordinator works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and clinical teams to create and manage master clinic schedules and templates to ensure efficient patient flow during daily clinics.  This role also obtains registration data within 24 hours of scheduling an appointment/admission to begin the insurance verification, and authorization and/or financial assistance processes with all payors and various Medical Groups.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:


Education: 

  • AA Degree Preferred
Experience:
  •  Three- five years’ experience scheduling in demanding medical environment preferably in Oncology related services
  • Customer service 3-5 years’ experience in demanding medical environment preferably in an Oncology department
  • Three-five years of experience in the medical field preferably in Oncology
  • Admitting experience in the Meditech system 3-5 years’ experience preferably in Oncology
  • Three-five years’ experience working with Payers’ specifically related to verification of benefits and out of pocket costs for Oncology patients
  • Three-five years’ experience working with clinical trials in Oncology
  • CT experience in acute care facility.
  • Trauma experience preferred.
Special Qualifications:
  • Alpha and numeric filing General office procedures.
  • Receptionist duties.
  • Extensive Medical terminology preferably in Radiation Oncology.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Computer operation and functionality 3-5 years’ experience working with Aria/Eclipse preferred.
