Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.



Responsibilities for this Position

We are ready to hire a Technical Lead for our Combat System team. You will help lead a project team modernizing a legacy combat system, applying concepts such as IaaS/PaaS and containerization. You will support our Chief Architect to plan changes to the system and will work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve agreement. You will help guide a varied team in developing solutions to be delivered to the United States Navy (USN) Submarine fleet. Our close-knit team is passionate about delivering the best product to the Navy to help protect our country. This dynamic project is fast-paced and addresses quickly evolving problems with creative solutions. We work closely with the Submarine community to develop solutions that allow the Navy to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

You'll be working with a team to:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to a technical team composed of software, integration, network, test, and hardware engineers migrating an existing system architecture into an IaaS/PaaS architecture
  • Interact with product and service teams to identify questions and issues within current architecture
  • Provide staffing estimates and support project management in ensuring effort is properly staffed
  • Work with the master schedulers to create and maintain the project schedule, aligned with PI planning and delivery dates; generate detailed team schedules, keep the team working to established dates, report out status
  • Generate and present technical design to the internal team and external customer
  • Collaborate with Chief Architect and Chief Engineer to ensure that systems and products being designed and deployed align with customer requirements and business strategies
  • Research and analyze technology solutions, emerging trends and changes in solutions; identify new areas of opportunity and evolve the strategic approach needed to address them

What we want you to bring to our team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related specialized area or field is required, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience leading a technical team – guiding the team’s efforts, maintaining schedules, providing staffing estimates
  • Familiarity with various architectural patterns, experience with OSI model
  • Experience with cloud-based environments and technologies (IaaS, PaaS, KVM/QEMU, CRI-O/Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience with computer hardware specification, evaluation, selection, and configuration
  • Experience with RedHat and Windows Operating Systems
  • Experience with software containerization and architecture modernization
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and frameworks in a prototype environment

Experience and Skills that will set you apart:

  • Thorough understanding of software architectures, containerization/virtualization, and cybersecurity regulations and controls
  • Experience with Agile development and working on sprint teams
  • Knowledge of Navy submarine systems
  • Proven experience in effectively communicating and collaborating cross site and cross company
  • Ability to quickly grasp and apply new information
  • Ability to handle more complex assignments as experience progresses
  • Self-motivated, engaged, continuously learning and looking for ways to improve things
