Senior Level Telephone Technician responsible for the maintenance, administration, and installation of DRSN equipment in support of the 379th Communications Squadron in Qatar.




  1. Maintain continuous operations of the DRSN 24 hours per day/seven days per week/365 days per year (24x7x365) (around-the-clock).
  2. Maintain, administer, and install DRSN equipment. Contractors providing O&M support shall have a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance. All O&M support shall be performed IAW Joint Staff and DISA Instructions as well as the SPIN-C. DRSN installation may include hazardous duty location.
  3. Provide administration, management, operation, and maintenance of DRSN switch and associated equipment. Supported capabilities include:
  4. Long local configuration;
  5. Operation of enhanced command consoles;
  6. Use of RED and BLACK maintenance tool kits;
  7. Voice announcer system;
  8. Power supplies;
  9. UPS;
  10. IST programming to support user requirements;
  11. Perform software upgrades.
  12. Support equipment installation, placement, or relocation, including system checkout, test, and maintenance. The contractor shall perform all work IAW the specifications and policies of the DoD, CJCSI, DISA/DISA-Europe and USAF, and manufacturers of system components and with generally accepted telecommunications industry practices. Subtasks shall include:
  13. Operate DRSN switch and associated hardware respectively IAW technical manuals;
  14. Start and configure the switch, respond to console messages, execute available diagnostic routines, and monitor system status;
  15. Power down and start up system(s): mount and remove disks, cartridges, or tapes; select input/output files; load programs, files, and data base(s); and perform recoveries from machine stops or malfunctions;
  16. Perform disk, cartridge, or tape backup of the DRSN switch programming every seven calendar days. When database changes have occurred, backups shall be completed within 24 hours;
  17. Perform system/data administration on all equipment and software. The contractor shall accomplish database changes per time frames IAW DoD and DISA directives;
  18. Perform software functions and translations for any add, move, change, delete, query of a circuit or system data, service order, trouble assistance, records administration, and call usage documentation;
  19. Perform minor installations as part of O&M and assist during major installations.



Computers, printers, scanners, telephone and general office type equipment as well as equipment required to IOM the DRSN equipment as reflected in the Minimum Qualifications.



Working environment will be 100% indoors in a climate-controlled facility.  The outside environment will also be very hot due to conditions within the region.


Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds.



Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.


Must meet the certification requirement of DoD 8570.01-M or individual task order.


Must have three years’ experience on Raytheon Digital Small Switch DSS-2A or attended the Government school at Fort Huachuca on the DSS-2A.






Lead level “hands on” work experience in support of installations, repair, and troubleshooting or maintenance of telecommunications systems or equipment. Must have the technical knowledge to solvecomplex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment. Experience, to include supervision and shop practices.




Personnel in this labor category are considered experts in the field. Lead level experience in maintenance/troubleshooting telecommunications equipment as specified in the specified task order, to include the following:

  • DRSN equipment
  • Raytheon secure digital switches
