Job Summary

At Houston Methodist, the Pharmacy Contracts Director is responsible for coordinating, administering, implementing, and assisting in all system-wide contracting of pharmaceutical products totaling approximately $145 million in annual spend.  This role identifies cost savings/cost avoidance opportunities and works collaboratively with key stakeholders to garner support for system-wide cost reduction opportunities.  This position ensures compliance with all pharmaceutical contract agreements and manages wholesaler and GPO relationships related to pharmaceutical purchases.  This position works directly with the Pharmacy Directors and Pharmacy Buyers at each facility.

PEOPLE - 25%
1. Interacts with vendor representatives to receive new contract offers and obtain supporting data, information and documents. Interacts with third party consultants to evaluate contract offerings. (EF)
2. Interacts with SCM personnel to facilitate the evaluation and completion of contract documents.  Interacts with system-wide evaluators of contracted products and services for completion of evaluations. (EF)
3. Interacts with contracted waste management personnel to manage all waste management operations and billings. (EF)

1. Accomplishes operational objectives through negotiation with contracted vendors in planning, organizing, and managing waste management workload and work processes. (EF)
2. Facilitates improvement in Patient or Customer satisfaction score. (EF)
3. Creates an environment of personalized service and engages our staff and physicians. (EF)

1. Complies with Business Practice standards for performance. (EF)
2. Sets and meets standards for quality and safety as they pertain to the selection of contracted products and services. (EF)
3. Defines standards that ensure performance excellence (e.g., clinical care, quality, and safety). (EF)

1. Conducts all pharmaceutical contracting for Houston Methodist totaling approximately $145 million in annual spend, including unique HM agreements and commitments, and use of the pharmaceutical GPO agreements. (EF)
2. Seeks and identifies cost savings initiatives through system-wide Pharmacy initiatives. Implements and records Pharmacy related cost savings initiated through SCM.  Provides information and potential cost saving opportunities to system executives when requested. (EF)
3. Assists in the financial evaluation of competing vendors of major contracts. (EF)
4. Manages the payment of monthly waste management services for the system. (EF)

1. Develops and implements new ideas and best practices in field of expertise. (EF)
2. Seeks professional growth including individual networking (e.g., professional associations) to positively represent Houston Methodist and gather benchmarking/trend data. (EF)

o Bachelors degree in pharmacy
o Advanced degree preferred

o Five years of experience in Pharmacy Management; preferably in a hospital setting
o Five years of experience in bidding and contract negotiation

o Pharmacist licensure required and Texas Pharmacist licensure must be obtained within six months of hire

o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
o Ability to lead teams of professionals, engage physicians in dialog around supply cost management and work with vendors to achieve clinical and financial goals 
o Team player with excellent interpersonal, consensus building, and group facilitation skills
o Strong analytical, organizational, and customer service skills
o Proven skills in Microsoft Office applications
o Adaptability and flexibility in the face of changing demands
