Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Materials and Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to investigate material issues and provide solutions.
  • Provide support to multiple aircraft programs in both unclassified and classified environments; be responsible for new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, drawing reviews, and performing detailed technical reviews.
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Chain and Supplier Quality to review and assess materials, processes, manufacturing procedures to mitigate risk for first article inspections
  • Work directly with suppliers and audit as needed to ensure F35 Engineering and M&P specifications are being met and to solve problems to ensure continuous part delivery.


Qualifications:

Note: This position can be filled at a Principal Engineer Material Process or Senior Principal Engineer Material Process level.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer Material Process:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degrees along with 5+ years' engineering experience; or a Master's degree in STEM along with 3+ years' engineering experience
  • Experience working with sealants, organic/inorganic coatings, corrosion mitigation, and adhesive materials; Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft structures
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Engineer Material Process:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degrees along with 9+ years' engineering experience; or a Master's degree in STEM along with 7+ years' engineering experience.
  • Experience working with sealants, organic/inorganic coatings, and adhesive materials; Fabrication, assembly, corrosion mitigation, and repair processes for aircraft structures
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science Degree or other STEM degree.
  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
  • 7+ years of aircraft/spacecraft design experience, including material testing and qualification efforts, detailed drawing reviews, and supporting build.
  • Experience working on military aircrafts.
  • Experience working in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
