The Department of Dermatology seeks highly-motivated postdoctoral scholars on an immediate and rolling basis to join the laboratory of Ali Jabbari, MD, PhD in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Iowa. The main focus of study is alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease in which T cells attack the hair follicle. A mouse model of the disease exists that recapitulates the disease and allows for mechanistic studies, and access to human tissue samples are readily available through the University of Iowa Department of Dermatology clinics. This relationship allows us easily move between the bedside and the bench, and from bench to bedside. The most likely initial project for the candidate would be using genetic models (eg, Cre/LoxP system) to assess the roles of various effector functions in murine alopecia areata. Readouts to include those ascertained by flow cytometry, ELISAs, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, etc.
