Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides operations and maintenance (O&M) support as required for the satellite sites. Supports day-to-day operations to include circuit troubleshooting, outage reporting, publications, and record keeping. Coordinates with outside agencies in the engineering and troubleshooting of satellite trunks. Conducts systems engineering provisioning for all communications circuits and directs operations. Coordinates with the local RNOSC for upgrades, modifications, activations, and deactivations of all satellite trunks, circuitry, equipment, software and hardware. Drafts revisions to the station Standard Operating Procedures to comply with RNOSC requirements.


Responsibilities

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
1. Completes training required for site Satellite communications technicians.
2. Follows work-center operating procedures.
3. Performs security, SATCOM operations, and maintenance (routine and outages).
4. Assists with TMDE calibrations with the TMDE coordinator ensuring there is ample test equipment available to perform day-to-day operations.
5. Completes the facility maintenance according to appropriate rules and regulations.
6. Follows proper key control for facilities and equipment as required.
7. Responsible for all COMSEC duties as custodians and coordinates with the COMSEC custodians as necessary.
8. Monitors site power and supervises PMCS accordingly.
9. Maintains configuration management documentation.
10. Responsible for overall safety and cleanliness of the work site.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Fiber Interconnect, Terrestrial Critical control Circuit (TCCC) equipment, and power generation system
AN/USC-64, Integrated Control Console
Switching Equipment- SMU/CDS (Compact Digital Switch) integrated switching suite with associated COMSEC suite
DISN SIPR and NIPR Hub Node Suites
ITSDN SIPR and NIPR suites
Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and associated battery sets TMDE
Communications Security Equipment- (1) TSEC/KG-84A/TSEC/KG-84C/TSEC/KG-194/KG-175/TSEC/KGX-93/TSEC/KIV-7HS/TSEC/KIV-19/TSEC/Y-57/TSEC/KY68 and associated HYP-71 power supply.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Working environment will be 90% indoors and 10% outdoors. Individual should be able to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted. The SATCOM facility exposes you to moderate noise levels due to cooling and other equipment. The outside work environment will also be very hot due to conditions within the region. Personnel will also be required to stand for long periods of time.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
Education: High school diploma required. Some college preferable. Microwave or SATCOM
maintenance courses preferred.
Experience: Requires a minimum of 7 years operating experience in a Satellite
communications. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and
must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be able to
work rotating shift schedules which provide 24 hours per day/7 days per week coverage.
