POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior EEG Neurodiagnostic Technologist functions under minimal supervision to safely operate and maintain multiple pieces of sophisticated medical equipment and all the technical aspects necessary operate efficiently. The incumbent will have specific training in recording cortical, peripheral nerve, auditory nerve and visual pathway neurophysiologic testing as well as extensive experience in the recognition and management of seizures in both the Phase I and Phase II epilepsy patient.The incumbent is qualified in recording techniques using both scalp and invasive electrodes involving a large number of recording channels. Simultaneous EEG and video recording of seizures and various stimulation procedures make the Senior EEG Neurodiagnostic Technologist role significantly more demanding than in the routine EEG laboratory.The incumbent is proficient in recording acute electrical activity directly from the cortical surface during the exposure in the course of surgical treatment for epilepsy. This position is responsible for reporting any significant patient abnormalities in the diagnostic data to the appropriate physician.The position performs basic and complex electrophysiological recording in accordance with physician’s orders and historical information. This position functions in both the clinical and surgical settings at both campuses of SutterMedicalCenter. The Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist provides Electroneurodiagnostic testing to patients of all ages providing vital information assisting in the diagnosis of suspected neurological disorders. This position is responsible for performing procedures either in the Neurodiagnostic Laboratory and/or Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

Education/Licensure/Certification:
- A high school diploma is required.
- Registered in at least one area of Electroneurodiagnostic or equivocal training in a 2 year Neurodiagnostic educational program is required.
- BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
Experience:
- Must have 4 years significant Neurodiagnostic technology experience in an acute care setting, performing procedures on infant, pediatric and adult patients.
- Experience in surface and Intra-Cranial electroencephalographic Video/ Telemetry Monitoring strongly preferred.
- Training experience in all modalities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of human anatomy with emphasis on neuroanatomy, physiology, physics and medical equipment electronics is essential in providing the basis for monitoring electroencephalograms (EEG's) and evoked potentials (EP's) and recognizing pathology related to the neurological data.
- The Senior EEG Neurodiagnostic Technologist must have the ability to distinguish EEG and EP abnormalities on the recordings.
- The incumbent must have a complete understanding of recording sites and recording montages to help localize various abnormalities.
- Understanding of pharmacology, especially anti-epileptic and anesthetic medications, is essential, as is in-depth understanding of medical terminology.
- This position also requires in-depth knowledge of Electroneurodiagnostic equipment assembly and operation as well as routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- The incumbent must understand sterile techniques to safely provide procedures in surgical procedures.
- The EEG Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate multiple models of electroencephalographic equipment.
- He or she must also be able to test patients of all ages, including neonatal and pediatric patients. The incumbent must be very knowledgeable in use of analog and digital equipment in the Neurodiagnostic Laboratory and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
- The incumbent may also need to demonstrate the ability to perform complex surgical procedures such as skull based cranial nerve monitoring, somatosensory evoked potential, motor evoked potential, rhizotomy, motor strip mapping, and surgical carotid EEG.
- This position may perform EEG testing during Intra-carotid sodium amytol testing (WADA) and PET scan procedures.
- The incumbent must have experience performing complex procedures in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit including the setup and monitoring of 1-128 channel intra cranial electrode setup, complex video EEG playback, cortical stimulation, depth survey and surgical EEG monitoring of exposed brain is desired.
- The incumbent must have a good understanding of computers which is essential for use of digital monitoring equipment and troubleshooting computer malfunction.
