Dominion Hospital,116 bed, the only freestanding mental health care facility in Northern Virginia, leads the region in short-term mental health services for children age 5-12, adolescents age 13-17 and adults age 18 and older, as well as therapeutic programs for eating disorders through our Reflections Eating Disorders Treatment Center.

Specific Job Functions:
 

Dominion Hospital provides psychiatric inpatient hospitalization services for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to acute stabilization, Dominion Hospital also delivers therapeutic programs specializing in eating disorders and complex trauma disorders. All units provide treatment that is rooted in a model of individualized, trauma-informed, and evidenced-based care with the goal of incorporating family, the community, and other levels of care in treatment and recovery. At Dominion, members of the Department of Social Work collaborate with other disciplines to form a multidisciplinary treatment team, including psychiatry, nursing, Psychiatric Technicians, and Expressive Therapy, amongst others. The Clinical Therapists provide individual therapy, family therapy sessions, and group therapy, utilizing modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic Therapy. Dominion Hospital is a leader in providing trauma-informed, evidence-based psychiatric treatment and follows an integrated, individualized, and holistic approach.

 

The role of the Clinical Therapist in the inpatient setting includes:

  • Thoroughly completing psychosocial assessments in collaboration with patients and their family members (when appropriate) within forty-eight hours of admission.
  • Providing individual therapy and family sessions appropriate to client needs at a minimum of once per week.
  • Facilitating group therapy with children, adolescents, and/or adults.
  • Attending and participating in treatment planning meetings and clinical meetings for patients assigned to caseload and completing treatment plan interventions appropriate to the patient’s needs.
  • Collaborating with community providers and family members in the discharge planning process when determining appropriate level of care and completing the referral process.
  • Completing assignments and documentation in a timely manner as per departmental and hospital standards.
  • Collaborating with members of the Social Work Department, physicians, and nursing staff regarding safety, treatment, participation in the program, and continuum of care.
  • Displaying professionalism in all interactions with patients, their families, staff, and outpatient providers.
  • Participating in clinical and/or job supervision as assigned by the Director of Social Work.
  • Following all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Following work schedule as assigned: Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, including a 30 minute lunch break.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:
 

Education:   Master’s Degree from an accredited social work program which provided appropriate background and experience.  Education should be clinically focused with study in human life span development, psychopathology, and clinical treatment interventions based on diagnosis and evidenced-based practice.

Certifications:  Crisis Prevention Institute, CPR-BLS for healthcare providers required.

License:  N/A  
Experience:
  • At least the equivalent of 1 year of experience, focused in the area of inpatient hospitalization, crisis stabilization, and/or residential treatment.  
  • At least 1 year of experience and/or 12 CEUs of training in evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care.
