Regional Medical Center of San Jose is a 264 bed acute care hospital with a Level II Trauma Center. The hospital provides a host of technologically advanced services including Cardiovascular, Neuro, Orthopedic, Bariatric and General Surgery, Interventional Pulmonology and services for Women. Regional holds Joint Commission advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Get with the Guidelines- Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. County-designated STEMI (heart attack) Receiving Center designated Lung Cancer Screening Center, a member of Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ECMO) and certified by The Joint Commission in Sepsis care.

SCHEDULE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week), SHIFT: Days, Monday - Friday

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infection Prevention and Control Specialist (IPCS), trained in hospital epidemiology principles, assists in the planning, development and evaluation of the goals, standards, policies and  procedures of an integrated hospital-wide Infection Control Program to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet Joint Commission, OSHA, Public Health Department, and Centers for Disease Control requirements; completes infection control needs assessment; educates employees and providers about infection control; and conducts surveillance, analysis, reporting, risk reduction, and outbreak control of hospital acquired  infections; and provides consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies; serves as a thought leader for infection prevention and control.

 

Qualifications

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Minimum:  CA Registered Nurse (RN) , (CIC) Certificate in Infection Control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. If experience and no current certification, must pass CIC examination within 6 months.  No direct infection control experience – must take exam within one year of hire.

Minimum:  Three (3) years of acute care or related experience, preferably in infection control

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum:   BSN and/or Master's degree required  in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
