Dialysis Technician- Dialysis


HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is a 423-bed acute care hospital that has been serving the north Houston community for more than 40 years, providing a wide range of medical services including cardiology, maternity care, neonatal intensive care, pediatrics, bariatrics and neurology.
HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.


What you would do in this role:


Provides preventive maintenance, installation, calibration, electrical safety test, and repair of Hemodialysis equipment. Completes written documentation of all testing and repair results and operates a computerized equipment management program to store these results. Assist the Renal Department with education and training of dialysis personnel in water treatment systems. Performs Monthly Water Cultures/LAL and report to Director appropriate action plan in a timely manner. Performs Equipment disinfection as per department policy. Maintains data for the department QA and CQI as related to water quality and safety.

  • Performs routine, periodic inspections of clinical biomedical equipment to assure continuing compliance with performance and safety requirements 95% of the time.
  • Is familiar with and utilizes specialized test equipment to ensure correct functioning of medical equipment daily.
  • Completes complicated repair of biomedical equipment when it is not covered by warranty or a service contract and completes requisitions for repair parts as required.
  • Performs incoming inspections of clinical biomedical equipment to assure that it meets the manufacturer specifications for safety and performance, any applicable standards and codes, and any requirements for documentation and accessories in the hospital purchase order when necessary.
  • Prepares documentation of competed equipment inspections or repairs and operates the computer system to execute the biomedical equipment quality assurance program 100% of the time.
  • Instructs and advises personnel in the care and safe, effective use of medical equipment as required.
  • Acts as trainer and shares information with newly assigned Biomedical Equipment Technicians as required.
  • Reports any unsafe practices or situations to the Director or Designee of Biomedical Engineering 100% of the time.
  • Subject to emergency call-in and makes decisions as to biomedical equipment problem disposition as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in Biomedical Engineering shop at all times.
  • Works with little or no supervision on a daily basis.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Participates in Performance Improvements
    • Is able to articulate departmental PI/QC activities
    • Is able to state the methodology for PI used by the organization
    • Assists in one of the following PI activities:
    ­ Assists in data collection
    ­ Identifies opportunities or ideas for improvement in department or organization
    ­ Participates in PI team


Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Associates Degree or equivalent experience preferred with additional Biomedical Equipment/Electronics Technical Training.

Minimum Experience: 3 years

Required Certification: Technical Training Class for Fresenius Hemodialysis System

Skills: Knowledge of physiology, electrical, electronic, mechanical, optical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and principals that apply to biomedical equipment systems. Using and interpreting national safety and accrediting standards, equipment systems application in medicine and medical safety procedures
