Job Summary

At Houston Methodist, the Driver Class B is responsible for the operation of a commercial class delivery vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of at least 30,000 lbs. The position will handle the delivery of bulk, palletized supplies and equipment to all Houston Methodist Hospital campuses, offsite clinical care centers, corporate buildings and associate entities which originate from the offsite Distribution Center.

o Focuses on patient/customer safety
o Delivers personalized service using HM Service Standards

o Involves patients (customers) in shift/handoff reports by enabling their participation in their plan of care as applicable to the given job

PEOPLE - 20 %
1. Works collaboratively with the Logistics Supervisors and Shift Coordinators to identify all outbound orders and timing of established deliveries with clear and professional communication. (EF)
2. Works directly with Fleet Supervisor and Technicians to determine availability of all fleet assets for defined assignments and considers timelines required for use in other operational work to be performed by drivers on shift. (EF)
3. Develops working relationships with customer base and identifies key points of contact for daily transactions on scheduled routes. (EF)
4. Responds positively to requests for assistance from customers, employees and visitors, using clear and professional communication to facilitate problem resolution. (EF)

SERVICE - 30 %
1. Forms and maintains good communication and rapport with all SCM Receiving teams to ensure accurate and efficient means for delivery of goods and equipment to their respective campuses. (EF)
2. Demonstrates professionalism and consistently models excellent customer service skills while traveling. (EF)
3. Ensures all returned items are confimed by management for pickup and staged accordingly upon return to the Distribution Center. (EF)

1. Completes Daily Vehicle Inspection Report. Documents and reports any recognized deficiencies to the Fleet Supervisor prior to the end of the shift, and provides feedback upon repair. (EF)
2. Operates assigned vehicle with the highest of standards and focuses directly on ensuring the safety of themself and others while on the roadway. (EF)
3. Maintains all requirements of the State DOT/DMV standards for Commercial Class drivers and keeps up with any changes or updates to the defined regulations.. Maintains a safe driving record within the limits of the established policy. (EF)
4. Participates in all safety training offered by the department with specific regard to transportation and warehousing. (EF)
5. Operates all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) with regards to safe practice and best application for the assigned task. (EF)

FINANCE - 10 %
1. Reviews all current road/traffic reports to reduce travel time and increase efficiency, and show effectiveness through documentation of daily trip log. (EF)
2. Ensures all fuel receipts are submitted accurately within the time frame and process established by management. (EF)

1. Maintains awareness of current trends with fleet equipment development and best practices for its use and applications. (EF)
2. Shows a level of growth and understanding for the operations of the Distribution Center and what drives changes to our daily workload. (EF)

o High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)  

o Three years of commercial driving experience.
o Relative work history in light industrial or warehousing environment preferred.

o Must possess a valid State of Texas, Class ¿B¿ Commercial Driver¿s License (CDL) with no moving violations within the past three years. Will be subject to an annual State of Texas MVR review to ensure compliancy.

o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
o Must be able to safely operate all powered and manual equipment in the work area.
o Must demonstrate a proficiency with smart phone or tablet applications used in two-way communications, GPS wayfinding and/or vehicle safety monitoring.
