Job Description Summary

Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment will be located in Chicago, IL and will provide practical L&E legal advice and strategic L&E litigation management across all of Cushman's global operations. The position, located in Chicago, will work closely with Cushman's HR partners to accomplish our global workforce objectives while minimizing risk across various personnel matters, including performance management; reductions in force; talent acquisition; union relations; leaves of absence and accommodations; EEO/affirmative action; employee benefits; compensation and rewards; and learning and development, among other areas. The position will be responsible for managing outside counsel on L&E litigation matters and providing L&E support on key business initiatives and HR projects. The position is expected to manage two direct reports.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Support global HR in compliance with state, federal and international employment laws and workforce objectives, including with respect to performance management, reductions in force, talent acquisition, union relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, EEO/affirmative action, employee benefits, compensation and rewards, and learning and development
  • Review and update global employment policies and plans, including employee handbooks, bonus plans, compensation guidelines, summary plan descriptions and severance programs
  • Draft and negotiate employee/partner employment agreements, offer letters and separation agreements
  • Train and advise HR on recent developments in employment laws
  • Manage outside counsel on L&E litigation matters; develop and implement L&E litigation strategy
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and a member in good standing of a U.S. state bar.
  • 12+ years of labor and employment experience; at least 6 years of which obtained at a major law firm and at least 3 years of which obtained at a major corporation
  • Excellent business judgment with the ability to provide sound legal advice which reflects an understanding of Cushman's overall business objectives
  • Ability to effectively manage outside counsel
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, coordinate and satisfy numerous competing demands
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and integrity
  • Self-motivated and ability to complete matters without supervision; must be able to work independently and be execution-oriented
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
