Job Title:

Director, Heart Valve Clinic, Houston Methodist Woodlands

Interventional and Structural Cardiologist, Houston Methodist Hospital

Job Descriptions:

  1. Establish a specialty heart valve clinic (referral center) for consultation, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of valvular heart and related diseases at Houston Methodist Woodlands while working closely with all the referring physicians in and around the community to provide excellent care to our patients in partnership with the valve team at Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH).
  2. Establish a structural heart interventional program providing percutaneous therapies including TAVR.  TAVR and Other percutaneous procedures including MitraClip, ASD/PFO occlusion, TMVR, BMV, LAAO and PVL closure will be performed at HMH until approved and appropriate to be performed at HM Woodlands.
  3. Coordinate with Section Chief of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery and Transplant to proctor advanced aortic procedures to keep 100% of complex cases as defined by DRG 306 at HMTW.
  4. Build program Within the North Region to include HMTW, HMWB, HMW in conjunction with the entity cardiovascular surgeons.  Growth as defined by program expansion of breadth and depth of services, increase volumes, expand market share, and focus on improving quality metrics.  
  5. Participate in research trial enrollment at HM Woodlands.  Ideally as an extension of HMH SHD trial activities.
  6. Work closely with referring physicians while maintaining close follow up on referred patients, so at the appropriate time they can undergo surgery at Woodlands or percutaneous valve treatment within the Houston Methodist system.
  7. Practice interventional cardiology, (and general cardiology as time and productivity permits) at Houston Methodist Woodlands
  8. Maintain interventional and structural cardiology privilege at HMH to bring appropriate HM Woodlands valve clinic patients for select procedures at HMH. 

Clinical Activities

    1. Half day general cardiology clinic
    2. Start with half day dedicated valve clinic. Will increase to full day, when the patient volume and referral base increases.
        • Educate and network with potential referring groups in and around the community to establish a referral base for the program.
        • Train valve clinic nursing/support staff, echo technologists.
    3. Perform interventional cardiology procedures.
    4. Participate in PO Cardiology group call schedule.
    5. Read and interpret diagnostic imaging (on own patients, and others if requested) and ECGs.
    6. Work closely with the structural heart team at HMH.
    7. Perform interventional/structural heart procedures to maintain high quality procedural and patient care skills, as an independent provider at HMH.
    8. Train HM Woodlands Cath lab/OR personal and support staff on structural heart procedure and related work flow.
    9. Proctor and train interventional/surgical colleagues from HM Woodlands on TAVR.
