Turn your job into a career by joining Main Line Health! This position is a dual role of a Cardiology Tech and also covering the Front Desk of the Cardiology office. All work located at the Newtown Square Health Center. This position works five 6-hour days, total of 30 hours/week.
JOB TITLE: Cardiology Technician
The Cardiology Technician performs diagnostic stress testing, holter monitor hookup and scanning, and electrocardiograms on patients of ages newborn to geriatric in an efficient and professional manner. Evaluate and analyze all data for changes in cardiac rhythm, patient’s condition, and patient’s comfort level when utilizing a treadmill and keep Cardiologist apprised of changes. Ability to manage and process EKGs in the MUSE system.
Stress Testing: (Nuclear Medicine stress testing and Echo Stress Testing)

  1. Explain procedures in an appropriate manner and assures that the patient understands the procedure, e.g. proper use of the treadmill.
  2. Obtains patient’s signed consent form prior to stress test being performed and ensure all paperwork is filled out completely and accurately.
  3. Preps and hooks up patient to the appropriate equipment using standard stress, holter monitor or ECG placement and verifying quality of preparation.
  4. Assists with Stress testing in Nuclear Medicine & Echo Department, monitoring cardiac rhythm and patient responses.
  5. Evaluates ECG for artifact and physiologic or abnormal changes.
  6. Communicates changes and abnormalities to physician/nurse practitioner immediately.
  7. Continuously assesses and monitors patient’s condition while on treadmill and during recovery. Analyzing data and keeping physician & nurse practitioner apprised of changes or abnormalities during the testing procedure and recovery.
  8. Prepares report and secures official interpretation in a timely fashion
Holter Monitoring:
  1. Provide patient education and orientation for cardiac holter monitors.
  2. Preps and hooks up patient to the appropriate equipment using standard stress, holter monitor or ECG placement and verifying quality of preparation.
  3. Ensures holter is returned with in time frame needed
  4. Holter monitor scanning (24 hour ECG recording) Scans holter monitor recording evaluating and assessing for arrhythmias and notifies Cardiologist of abnormal findings
  5. prepares report and secures official interpretation in a timely fashion

  1. Preps and hooks up patient to the appropriate equipment using standard stress, holter monitor or ECG placement and verifying quality of preparation.
  2. Competent in the use of the EKG machines.
  3. Evaluates ECG for artifact and physiologic or abnormal changes
  4. Communicates changes and abnormalities to physician immediately to get a STAT read

  1. Competent in use of MUSE system, preparing EKGs downloaded from all carts & prepare for physician reading.

  1. Charges appropriately for all services rendered.
  2. Maintains and follows all physician reading schedules
  3. Correctly assigns billing to each physician practice for reading of all services
  4. Handles all inquiries, requests for studies, faxes, telephone in appropriate and timely manner

Other Accountabilities:
  1. Participates in daily equipment maintenance. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate person.
  2. Keeps work area organized and clean for other staff members. Orders and restocks supplies.
  3. Retrieves previous studies for comparison.
  4. Performs other job related duties as requested by supervisor

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties required.
  • Graduate of a formal program in cardiovascular technology preferred.
Licensures & Certifications:
  • Certified cardiographic technician preferred.
  • BLS required (exception BMH)
  • Certification or minimum 6 months experience performing treadmill stress testing, holter scanning and electrocardiograms.
  • Basic ECG and arrhythmia interpretation required.
  • Basic knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology and terminology required.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment required.
