Summary / Description

We are seeking motivated, career and customer oriented Database Administrators interested in joining our team in Chantilly, VA and exploring an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with technical and business level contacts both to gain understanding of the requirements and demonstrate the ability to meet those requirements
  • Work with the Technical team to ensure the associated hardware resource allocation to the databases
  • Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime
  • Responsible for problem escalation to Development team and COTS Tech Support as appropriate
  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases/middleware to include rollout and upgrades/patches
  • Perform daily monitoring and maintenance of Databases and on call responsibilities.
  • Configuration and Change Management of database/middleware environments
  • Define and perform system backups and recovery procedures.
  • Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports
  • Recommend and execute modifications to systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance
  • Develop and maintain systems documentation
  • Perform database/middleware capacity planning and trend analysis
  • Monitors Databases and middleware for optimal performance acting quickly to mitigate performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot ETL and data quality issues
  • Installation of application releases in production and non-production environments

Requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.

Technical Background:

  • 8 years of experience, of which at least five years must be specialized experience in administrating databases and data base operations.
  • MySQL, or Postgres Database practical experience required
  • Experience with Oracle or MS SQL a plus
  • Experience tuning database systems  including system configuration,  queries and indexes
  • Experience ensuring high-availability and performance of the databases
  • Strong working knowledge of Solaris, Linux  and Windows operating systems

Other Special Requirements:

  • Must be available during core business hours of 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM and also be able to provide support during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to implement changes or fixes.
  • Candidate must be able to hold and maintain a NACI Minimum Background Investigation Public Trust clearance.
  • Candidates currently living in the DC Metropolitan Area are preferred
  • Requires 8 hour shift and on-call work - currently operating hours are Monday through Friday 6am-10pm and weekends from 8:30 am- 4:30pm

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline.

 

US citizenship is required. Candidate must be able to hold and maintain a NACI Minimum Background Investigation Public Trust clearance.
