Summary / Description

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer service oriented Desktop Manager to join our team in Washington, DC  to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems. 

 

In this role you will provide guidance to subordinates based on organizational goals and company policy.  Work is reviewed in terms of meeting objectives and schedules.  Establishe operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate organizational units.  Interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to organizational policies.  Accomplish results through, and act as an advisor to subordinate managers to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.  Develop and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards.  Assists in the development of overall objectives and long-range goals for the assigned area.  May be responsible for managing a staff function of the company.  Incumbents in this classification are generally responsible for one or more of the following:  providing telephone and internet- based support service in response to service request and Unisys and multi-vendor network operating system products, delivering hardware and software support and services within one or more areas of network product expertise to resolve feature/function questions, complex product use or multi-product/platform problems, and/or complex questions.  Provides referrals and/or dispatches to other services providers.  May sell technical services via the telephone and delivers them remotely or on-site.

 

Generally responsible for one or more of the following:
•   Providing telephone and internet-based support service in response to service request and Unisys and multi-vendor network operating system products.
•   Delivering hardware and software support and services within one or more areas of network product expertise to resolve feature/function questions.
•   Complex product use or multi-product/platform problems, and/or complex questions.
•   May be responsible for managing a staff function of the company.
•   Providing guidance to subordinates based on organizational goals and company policy.
•   Establishing operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate organizational units.

•   Providing referrals and/or dispatches to other services providers.
•   May sell technical services via the telephone and delivers them remotely or on-site.
•   Successful provisioning as well as supervision of:
•   Installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
•   Installation of new systems, rebuilding existing systems, configuration of hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with customer/ government standards.
•   Configuration management of Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), network segments, and Internet and Intranet systems to ensure operability.
•   Installation and maintenance, network hardware and software, analyzing problems, and monitoring networks to ensure their availability to users.
•   Maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting within the roles of Incident Management (Return-to-Service) and/or Problem Management (Reason for Outage).
•   Evaluating a system’s performance and identifying user needs based on approved software per customer specifications.
•   Acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
•   Works independently on specific projects or may act as lead or Project Manager or a technical consultant where experience and knowledge span multiple projects.
•   Ensuring all design decisions are evaluated analytically and in a systematic manner in accordance with approved technical approaches, processes and procedures
•   Providing work leadership for more junior employees.
•   Works closely with network operations, systems and other groups on business projects, assignments, problems, etc.
•   Developing advanced technological ideas and guiding their development to a final product or solution.
•   Ensuring user environments are configured per requirements or baselines
•   Determining and pursuing courses of action necessary to obtain desired outputs, whether solutions or products, which may include baseline performance (SLA’s, etc.), Incident management and Problem Management.
•   Ensuring proper documentation for the corporate knowledgebase, including design, procedural and lessons learned.  This will also include maintaining and updating existing documentation.
•   Monitoring the Network and System Enterprise with provided tools to ensure the health of the critical client solutions.
•   Analyzing complex local and wide area networks and enterprise systems, which may include any combination of the following: planning, designing, evaluating, and selecting operating systems and protocol suites, configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges and other devices. Assisting with identifying, testing, and developing new network or system technologies collaboratively that increase value for the client.

Requirements

•   Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of combination of experience in computer system basics and/or related areas of expertise or equivalent.  

•   ITIL Foundations Certification.
•   Knowledge and skills may be obtained from a 2-6 year professional computer/IT degree, technical training plus direct related experience.
•   Expert knowledge in evaluating vendor products and make recommendations to purchase hardware and software.
•   Knowledge of setting up administrator and service accounts.
•   Knowledgeable in network security procedures, best practices, and implementation Certifications: Security+, CCNP, CCNA, MCSE, Network+, MCSA, A+.
•   Ability to troubleshoot software issue with COTS and customer applications as required.
•   Excellent documentation skills are required.
•   Must have a strong expert understanding of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32 and 64 bit), Active Directory, Group Policies, User and Computer Management utilities.
•   Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) – Windows desired.
•   Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) desired.
•   Security + certification mandatory.
•   Advanced knowledge or industry-specific terminology.
•   Must maintain Security + certification. Must adhere to federal standards as applicable.
