Summary / Description

We are seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator to join our IT support team.  The successful candidate will be part of our UNIX Administration Team responsible for supporting and maintaining a secure, mission critical production environment in Northern Utah.  This position is responsible for planning, implementing and performing all the various tasks required to build, administer, monitor, operate and maintain a variety of Linux branded systems.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Candidate shall perform Systems Administration and provide technical support for the Linux and Solaris systems in a large Department of Defense (DoD) Data Center environment.
  • Candidates must possess demonstrable skills in a diverse, mission critical datacenter environment. S
  • Installing and configuring Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of Linux system administration and have proficiency in the use of standard tools and utilities.

 

 

Requirements

Well qualified candidates will possess the following specific skills:

 

OPERATING SYSTEM: Senior working knowledge in the following areas of Linux system administration: General system administration, Software management and configuration, Patch management, Security and auditing, Kernel configuration and management, File system management and configuration, Software installation, configuration, and management, Netbackup, and Scripting. Experience with Solaris and HPUX is also a plus.

 

COMMUNICATIONS: Working knowledge with the communications interfaces between Linux servers and network infrastructure (firewalls, routers, VLANs, VPNs, PKI, Certificates, Encryption etc.).

 

ORACLE: Experience configuring and managing RedHat Linux servers to support large databases and applications.

 

OTHER responsibilities include but are not limited too:

  • Installation, configuration, and management of Solaris/Linux servers
  • Provide 2nd/3rd level support including on-call after hours support as required
  • Coordinate support efforts between inter-departmental groups
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system problems and performance issues
  • Administer users, groups, passwords, and other aspects of security
  • Monitor system logs and activities on all servers
  • Maintain formal documentation of managed systems
  • Active participation in the ITIL processes, Change, Incident, Release and Problem management.
  • Implement Cybersecurity policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the environment.

This position requires work outside of core hours and rotating on call responsibilities. Some limited travel may be required.

 

Education / Certification / Security Clearance Requirements

 

  • An active Top Secret DoD clearance is preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree in an IT related field and a minimum of 5 years of Linux Systems Administration experience. Additional years of IT work experience can be substituted for the lack of an advanced degree.
  • Linux and CompTia Security Plus certifications are a plus. Security + Certification is required within six months of hire.
