Big Data Engineer - Military Veterans

Position Summary/Responsibilities:

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Big Data Engineer to join our team in Alexandria, VA to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.

The ideal candidate should have an eye for building and optimizing data systems and will architect and build the software, research and implement the base system, and help chart our course forward as we continue to scale and solve interesting challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with other big data, reporting and analytics team members to optimize the agency’s data systems and pipeline architecture
• Design and build the infrastructure for data extraction, preparation, and loading of data from a variety of relational and non-relational sources into the Big Data environment and AWS.
• Build data and analytics tools that will offer deeper insight into the pipeline, allowing for critical discoveries surrounding key performance indicators 

Required Skills:  

• Minimum 15 years of IT experience and a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent quantitative field or equivalent blend of education and experience.
• 3+ years of experience in a similar Data Engineer role
• Experience working with large data sets and extracting from structured or unstructured datasets
• Demonstrated ability to build processes that support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to project manage and work with cross-functional teams
• Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
• Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
• Experience with displaying data Geospatially.
• Experience with the following tools and technologies: 
• Cloudera Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NiFi, ElasticSearch, Hive, Solr
• Relational SQL and NoSQL databases
• Data visualization tools such as D3js, leaflet.
• AWS cloud services such as EC2, EMR, RDS and Redshift
• Stream-processing systems such as Storm and Spark-Streaming
• Programming languages and related web technologies such as Python, Java, Javascript, C++, JSON, R etc.
