Logistics Director (7295) - Military Veterans

Reporting to the VP Operations, the Logistics Director will be located at the company’s manufacturing location in Medina, OH (Greater Cleveland area). This individual coordinates the operation of all logistics functions (receiving, shipping and material handling) for two manufacturing/warehousing locations (Plymouth Meeting PA and Medina OH). The Logistics Director leads a highly effective logistics operation with the following goals-- achieve a high level of safety and regulatory compliance; provide high level of service to customers; operate in a cost effective and highly organized manner; implement strategies related to freight activities; adhere to all key control processes and achieve strong audit results; build and lead a high performing team based on best practices for people management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises employees in the warehouse, shipping/receiving and material handling departments. Ensures department is run effectively with priority on safety and quality.
  • Manage approximately 5 direct reports.
  • Develop a process of continuous improvement in all aspects of warehouse operations -- conceive and implement service, cost and control improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for annual physical inventories at multiple sites, cycle counting program and maintain OTS metrics at multiple facilities.
  • Responsible for developing procedures for transportation of materials from company to customer, vendor to company, to/from warehouse and other storage facilities ensuring that all goods arrive within required time frame at the best freight cost.
  • Assists with plan layout of warehouse and other storage areas considering turnover, size, weight and related factors of items stored to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Manages and maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area and assists in maintaining the security and safety of the warehouse.
  • Direct personnel on their tasks and job duties per shift.
  • Supervise, train and assist warehouse workers in accordance with required policies, procedures, safety rules, computer systems and programs, and operation and maintenance of warehouse equipment.
  • Cross-train workers to ensure adequate coverage. Evaluate and review workers and recommend/initiate corrective actions, must maintain support of 24/5 and 24/7 plant operations.
  • Work with Inventory Control to study records and recommend remedial action for reported non-usable, slow moving and excess stock. Review records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures and to determine adequacy of stock levels.
  • Confers with department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities with such activities as production, sales, records control, and purchasing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4 Yr. degree in warehouse management preferred, degree in business or associated discipline will be considered
  • 5-8 years of warehouse supervision experience in similar plant environment
  • 3-8 years of traffic control experience for a high capacity factory
  • Able to work overtime and nights as required
  • Significant experience with inventory control and regulation
  • Hazardous materials experience highly desired.
  • IATA training or certification, DOT RCRA Training,
  • Must have forklift license

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Overall knowledge of warehouse equipment, strong leadership and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Proficient with ERP systems as well as PC applications such as Email, Word, and Excel; printers; RF Scanner; WMS systems; and UPS and FedEx systems
  • Knowledge of inventory control systems and cutoffs
  • Skilled in driving a forklift and the use of other material handling equipment
  • Certificate of OSHA Forklift Training is required
  • Strong attention to details, organization ability and ability to interact well with others
  • Exhibits professionalism
  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a chemical manufacturing plant environment
  • Occasionally may be required to reach, squat, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to sit in a fork truck for long periods of time
